The Weeds Were Never Just Weeds

Imagine a world where nature handed you what you needed, when you needed it. No cost, no long drive, no waiting room. A world where the “weeds” at the edge of the garden were not nuisances to be pulled, but familiar friends with names, gifts, and stories. A world where the plants around your home could become part of your pharmacy, pantry, beauty care, first-aid kit, and daily rhythm of nourishment.

For our family, this has never been only an idea. It has been a way of life carried forward through many generations: hands in the soil, eyes open to the living world, and elders reaching a hand behind them to guide the next in line. Green Path Academy grew from that same responsibility. We believe plant knowledge belongs close to the people, in kitchens and gardens, around tables, in communities, and in the hands of those willing to learn.

This is not a podium-and-powerpoint kind of herbalism. It is a roundtable of curious people, practical skills, old knowledge, fresh questions, and real relationship with the plants themselves. You do not have to arrive as an expert. You only have to come with curiosity, a willingness to pay attention, and the desire to see the living world with new eyes.

How the Green Path Unfolds

Green Path Academy is designed to be welcoming from the very first class, while still giving students a larger path to follow over time. You don't have to enroll in a full program before you begin, and you don't have to know exactly where the path will lead. Most classes are $40 to $65 for 2 to 4 hours of instruction, so you can simply begin with the class that calls to you, build practical herbal skills for your home, garden, family, and community, and return when the seasons bring you back. Over time, those individual classes can also become part of the full Green Path Academy curriculum.

Our in-person school now includes 20 core herbalism classes, each offered once per year. Together, these classes move through the living skills of herbal study: plant identification, medicine making, body systems, formulation, first aid, gardening, mushrooms, aromatics, nutrition, folk tradition, and practical care for everyday life.

Students who wish to earn the Green Path Academy Herbalist Certificate receive a class tracking sheet. After each completed core class, we sign your record. Once all 20 core classes have been completed, you receive your certificate as a mark of study, participation, and hands-on training through the full Green Path Academy curriculum.

Begin with the class that calls to you, and let the path deepen from there.

The Living Skills of Herbalism

Across the full 20-class curriculum, students gather the living skills of herbalism: how to recognize the plants, prepare remedies, understand the body, think holistically, create thoughtful formulas, live with the seasons, practice stewardship, and carry plant knowledge back into homes and communities.

This has been so much fun! The certificate track comes with such a sense of completion. Woodland Herbal feels like family now; not just Brandon and Jenni, but Leah, Barb and Ken, too! I've met new friends that share my same crunchiness and I've deepened my understanding of all things herbal. Would I do this again and would I recommend Green Path Academy? Heck, yeah! Do it, you won't regret it.

More than 200 students have walked the Green Path through our in-person classes, workshops, and herbal education offerings.

Green Path Academy began with an earlier 12-course certificate structure, but the school has grown. Our in-person curriculum has now expanded into a fuller 20-class model, giving students a broader, more flexible way to learn herbalism over time.

Students who wish to earn the Green Path Academy Herbalist Certificate now receive a class tracking sheet. Each completed core class is logged, and once all 20 core classes have been completed, the student receives their certificate.

Green Path Academy classes are welcoming, hands-on, and rooted in real relationship with the plants. This is not your traditional seminar at a podium, but more of a roundtable of friends and peers: a place where beginners, returning students, and longtime plant lovers can learn together in a relaxed, curious, and encouraging atmosphere.

You can expect practical herbal education woven with story, tradition, body systems, medicine making, plant study, seasonal wisdom, and plenty of conversation. Some classes may include hands-on preparations, garden observation, tasting, blending, recipe making, or learning how herbs relate to the systems and rhythms of the body.

Our goal is not to make you feel overwhelmed, but to give you enough knowledge, confidence, and inspiration to go home excited to practice, play, notice, make, and learn more. The green path is never-ending, and we are still learning too. That is part of what makes it so beautiful.

The green path is calling. Walk with us.

Green Path Academy now uses a 20-class completion model rather than a separate 12-course certificate track. Students may take classes individually, choosing the topics that call to them most, or they may slowly complete the full 20-class curriculum over time.

Most Green Path Academy classes may be taken in any order, unless a specific class listing says otherwise. Students working toward the certificate can begin with the class that calls to them and continue completing core classes over time as they are offered.

Students working toward the certificate receive a Green Path Academy class tracking sheet. After each completed core class, we sign your record. Once all 20 core classes have been completed, you receive your Green Path Academy Herbalist Certificate as a mark of study, participation, and hands-on training through the full curriculum.

Each core class is offered once per year. Full class descriptions, dates, and enrollment details can be found on the individual class listings.

If you are working toward the Green Path Academy Herbalist Certificate and miss a core class, you can take that class the next time it is offered. Each core class is currently planned once per year, so students can continue building their certificate record over time without needing to start over.

We also keep a waitlist by request. If a class fills, or if enough students are interested in a class that has already passed, we may repeat that class when possible. To join the waitlist, please ask us in person or contact us by email.

If you have already paid for a class and can no longer attend, our standard rescheduling policy applies. Please see the cancellation and rescheduling question below for details.

No. The Green Path Academy Herbalist Certificate is a certificate of completion from our school, not a medical license, professional license, or accreditation.

Our classes are meant to provide a spark, so you leave excited to dig deeper and continue learning in the areas of herbalism that call to you most. We are dedicated to common-sense herbalism, with the goal of helping students bring practical plant knowledge, confidence, and care back into their own homes, families, and communities.

It is important to take note that we are not doctors. We are herbalists teaching our passion for the plants. Any medical-related information shared during these classes is for educational purposes only. We do not recommend treating others as a physician or medical professional would, for without proper education, experience, humility, and care, great harm can be done.

An open mind, a desire to learn, and a willingness to participate. No previous herbal training is required unless a specific class listing says otherwise.

All attendees are required to sign a liability waiver before instruction begins. If a student refuses to complete and sign the waiver, they will not be able to participate in class, and no refund will be given for refusal to sign.

Most Green Path Academy classes are open to beginners, returning students, and experienced plant lovers alike. You may attend a single class without committing to the full certificate path.

Some advanced, practice-focused, or special-topic classes may build on previous material, and any specific recommendations or requirements will be noted in the individual class listing.

Students working toward the Green Path Academy Herbalist Certificate may complete the 20 core classes over time, in the order that works for them as classes are offered.

Class fees are non-refundable, but you may transfer your payment to a future class of your choice up to three times before needing to repay the class fee.

A few exceptions apply. Culinary classes involving served food may not be transferred or refunded once ingredients have been purchased based on the number of booked seats. Classes with paid guest instructors may also have separate policies.

Class purchases are non-transferable to another person, and no refunds are given for no-shows or cancellations.

A notebook, pen, an open mind, and a smile. Most class materials and supplies are included unless the individual class listing says otherwise. If a class requires you to bring anything specific, we will note it in the class description.

Many classes include hands-on work, discussion, and time close to the plants, so please dress comfortably and come prepared for the season. Sturdy shoes are recommended, especially for classes that may include time outdoors at Clary Gardens.

Green Path Academy is a hands-on learning experience, which makes it different from a passive at-home course. Come ready to participate, ask questions, take notes, work with the plants, and learn with your hands as much as your mind.

If you have known allergies, sensitivities, asthma triggers, food restrictions, or skin reactions, please review the class description carefully and contact us before attending if you have concerns.

Some classes may involve tasting herbs, handling plants, using oils, making topical preparations, or working with aromatic materials. Participation is always at your own discretion. We cannot guarantee that any class environment will be free from allergens.

When using any herbal preparation on the skin, a small patch test is recommended. Apply a small amount to the inside of the arm and wait several hours to check for irritation. Always use caution, and seek medical guidance when needed.

Green Path Academy classes and workshops are administered through Green Path Academy LLC, which operates separately from Woodland Herbal while remaining part of the same broader family of work.

Green Path Academy classes are not accredited medical training, and any recipes, preparations, herbs, or products discussed in class have not been evaluated by the FDA. Information shared in class is for educational purposes only and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease.

We do not make medical claims, diagnose conditions, prescribe treatment, or replace care from a qualified medical professional. We are herbalists and educators sharing plant knowledge, traditional use, practical skills, and personal experience.

Any herbs, recipes, preparations, or products discussed or shared in class are intended for general wellness education. Use at your own discretion. Every person responds differently to plants, foods, and topical preparations, and caution should be taken at all times.

Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health care provider with questions about a medical condition, medication, pregnancy, nursing, allergies, or any health-related concern. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking care because of something you learned in class or read on the Woodland Herbal or Green Path Academy website.
