Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
FolkCraft workshops are open to anyone, at any experience level, as long as space is available. These approachable, one-hour, hands-on classes are designed for curious beginners, returning students, plant lovers, makers, and anyone who wants to learn something useful in a fun, low-pressure setting. They’re welcoming, beginner-friendly, and easy to join at any time. No prior training is needed—just bring your curiosity and enjoy making something with your own hands.
FolkCraft is all about learning by doing. These workshops are small, friendly, and hands-on, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to jump in and participate. You can expect practical instruction, creative making, useful take-home knowledge, and the simple joy of working with your hands alongside good company. Plus, most of the time, you can take things home.
Each FolkCraft workshop is just one hour long and intentionally limited to 15 students. That means there are enough people to make the class feel lively and fun, but not so many that it becomes crowded or overwhelming. The small group size also gives everyone easier access to the teachers, more room to ask questions, and a more personal, hands-on learning experience.
An open mind, a willingness to learn, and a little curiosity. No previous training is required. All materials are supplied unless otherwise noted.
If you miss a FolkCraft workshop, we’re unfortunately not able to offer a refund. These classes are intentionally small, and we prepare ingredients and materials for each person ahead of time. We also honor the time and preparation our teachers invest in every workshop.
FolkCraft workshop purchases are non-refundable. If you cancel or do not show up, your payment will not be refunded. Because these are small one-hour workshops with limited seating, your reserved spot matters. Thank you for understanding why we need to keep this policy in place.
You don't need to bring supplies unless a class listing says otherwise. A notebook, a pen, clothes suitable for the weather, and a drink are always a good idea. Since classes are hosted at Clary Gardens, dressing for the weather and wearing comfortable shoes are highly recommended.

May 31, 2026 @ 1:00 PM - Ditch the Freaky Lab Lotions: Make Natural Lotion + Moisturizers
Step into the world of botanical skin care and learn how to make beautifully crafted moisturizers by hand. In this hands-on workshop, students will make and take home two nourishing preparations: one water-based natural lotion and one rich oil-based moisturizer. Along the way, we’ll talk through the real differences between natural skin care and commercial products, why so many lotions rely on harmful preservatives, synthetic ingredients, and other toxic additives, and why more people are becoming mindful of what they put on their skin. Many common beauty product ingredients have raised concerns around irritation, hormone disruption, and overall body burden, and we believe people deserve healthier, simpler options. This class offers a practical, empowering introduction to crafting wholesome moisturizers without the long list of chemicals found in store-bought formulas.
May 3, 2026 @ 1:00 PM - Make Your Own Drugs: Herbal Tincture Mini-Lab
Step into the apothecary and learn one of herbalism’s most practical and powerful preparations: the tincture. In this hands-on mini-lab, students will make their own tincture using fresh or dried plant material and build a custom medicinal blend to take home while learning how herbalists formulate remedies with the whole person in mind. Along the way, we’ll sample single-herb extracts and cover the essentials of tincture-making at home, including alcohol content, glycerites, basic filtration methods, how to prevent mold and spoilage, and how to approach dosing with confidence. Whether you’re brand new to herbal medicine or looking to deepen your kitchen apothecary skills, this class offers a lively, approachable introduction to crafting plant remedies by hand.
March 29, 2026 @ 1:00 PM - Spring Renewal: Tonics, Detox, and Seed Exchange
As winter gives way to spring, we awaken with the green world. Stroll blossoming gardens with us as we meet spring’s first allies—dandelion, nettle, plantain, and burdock. We will forage for nature’s detoxifying herbs and students will create their own Springtime Tonic that helps with cleansing the body, flushing out built-up toxins, and aids in weight loss. We’ll talk through the actions of the plants you choose, how to craft and use your own renewal tonic at home—then we turn everyone loose to swap seeds and spark garden plans for the season ahead. At our annual Spring Seed Exchange, herbalists and gardeners come together to share and swap seeds from their herb, flower and veggie gardens.
